Gauntlet Announced for DS

Eidos has announced they will be bringing a new version of Gauntlet to the DS sometime this year. The game will be developed by the king of retro conversions, Backbone Entertainment.

Gauntlet for the DS will allow players to select one of the four original character classes (Elf, Warrior, Wizard or Valkyrie) to save the world. The game will offer four-player options through a local connection and over the Internet through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Wi-Fi Connection mode will also include full in-game voice chat. Gauntlet for the DS will include 40 maps spread across three realms in the traditional overhead Gauntlet style. And, like Contra 4, the top and bottom screens will be connected to work as a single screen. Finally, the game will feature three extra multiplayer modes, again playable locally or through the Wi-Fi Connection: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Treasure Hoard.
